Overview

The Lac Seul First Nation is compromised of three pockets of reserve. Frenchmen's Head is accessible by road and is approximately 40 km from Sioux Lookout. Kejick Bay and Whitefish Bay are approximately 60 km northwest of Sioux Lookout and is accessible by water and air. The population status of Lac Seul First Nation is 939. The breakdown of the settlements is as follows: Kejick Bay - 416; Whitefish Bay - 98; Frenchmen's Head - 425.

Because of the geographic location of the three pockets of the community, the coordination of programs and services has always been a challenge for Lac Seul. As well, it's relative closeness to the community of Sioux Lookout had made it difficult for the community's distinct needs to be recognized, as they always get referred to the neighbouring communities for service.

Lac Seul First Nation is an independent First Nation, the local government consists of One Chief and seven Councillors. The Chief is elected from the community at large, while three councillors are elected from Kejick Bay and Frenchmen's Head settlements and one councillor is elected from Whitefish Bay.
