Pikangikum Fire Threat Returned, IFNA Stepped Up

IFNA was called upon by Chief Saiaanawap to evacuate 700 people in the community.

Herculean efforts by IFNA staff exemplified the extent of their capabilities.

Compassion, dedication and teamwork were exemplified through round the clock efforts.

Once the evacuation began and the threat of fire became very real for the community members, IFNA realized there was a dangerous lack of host communities to take in evacuees.

IFNA rose to the occasion, recognizing that their people were in jeopardy, and decided to take an active role in the evacuation efforts.

While ensuring the safety and comfort of the evacuees under the IFNA banner in Thunder Bay and Lac Seul, the team worked to find other host communities in order to get more Pikangikum community members to safety.
