Pikangikum Education Authority has released a statement regarding a knife-related threat involving two high school students at Eenchokay Birchstick School on March 2, 2026. According to the release, the situation was quickly contained by the Pikangikum Police Detachment and school officials, with no injuries reported.

Weapons were recovered and the students were initially taken into custody; however, charges were not laid after it was determined that proper arrest procedures were not followed.


The school was closed following the incident and will remain closed through the scheduled March Break, with classes expected to resume on March 23, 2026. The Education Authority has indicated that additional safety measures are being reviewed and implemented to support the safety and well-being of students and staff.
