IFNA Housing Package Brings Safer, Stronger Homes to Communities

In July 2024, IFNA’s Technical Services team received funding from Indigenous Services Canada to put together a housing package that addresses these issues. The team reviewed market options, older designs, and building codes. The package was finished in June 2025 and includes designs for three-bedroom, four-bedroom, duplex, and basement homes. It comes with a full contract and guide to help contractors give clear prices and finish work on time and on budget.

IFNA Launches Community-Led Trial Orchard Project

In summer 2025, IFNA communities celebrated an exciting milestone with the launch of the Trial Orchard Project. The project, a partnership between Lac Seul First Nation, Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI), Vineland Research and Innovation Centre, IFNA’s Health Services, Tech Services and Economic Development team, is a step toward improving food access and supporting local economies in the north. The goal is to test hardy fruit varieties like apples, cherries, haskaps, and elderberries to see which ones can grow successfully in IFNA communities.
